Message by Chairman, Singapore Aquarium Fish Exporters' Association
The ornamental fish industry has seen its fair share of ups and downs over the years and 2017 was no exception.
Despite continuing to hold the top position in terms of export volume, we are facing stiff competition from other exporting countries. Through innovation and technology, our members continue in their efforts to position their businesses to better meet future challenges.
At the same time, the aquaculture landscape is changing fast with the government’s focus on intensive farming in land-scarce Singapore. We are in dialogue with the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) and other relevant agencies to ensure that our members receive support during this transition period.
One of the highlights of 2017 was the inaugural Aquarealm show in Singapore. The show attracted visitors from around the world and received good reviews from the participants, who are looking forward to the next edition in 2019. Also, the successful hosting of the show continues to cement Singapore as an important player in the global ornamental fish trade.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the AVA for its support, and also congratulate the publisher on the successful publication of the Singapore Agri-Food Business Directory.
