Message by President, Meat Traders Association
The Meat Traders’ Association (MTA) is proud to contribute towards a safe and resilient food supply for Singapore with the encouragement, support and guidance from the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA), International Enterprise Singapore (IE Singapore). The Standards, Productivity and Innovation Board (SPRING Singapore), as well as other stakeholders.
The (MTA) was formed in 2001. Currently we have 48 members, an increase of 50% from 2016. This increase reflects the growing importance of the meat industry and the roles we play in the meat supply for Singapore. Our association collectively accounts for almost 100% of meat imported into Singapore of about S$1.4 billion annually. We are forming international business alliances and developing our export network and international trading capabilities as well.
We face many challenges to our food safety and security, including disruption to supplies due to natural disasters, animal diseases, logistics and other changes in the global trading environment. MTA members face an increasingly challenging business environment, especially against competition from bigger and very well-financed global entities.
As the MTA continues to work together as a family to face the various challenges, we look forward to continuing support from the AVA, IE Singapore, SPRING Singapore, and other stakeholders in order to help ensure a safe and resilient food supply for Singapore.
We wish all members of Singapore’s agri-food business a successful year ahead.
