Message by President, Kranji Countryside Association

Greetings from the Kranji Countryside Association (KCA)!

The KCA is delighted to launch a new category of membership in 2017 – the affiliate membership. We welcome our first six affiliate members comprising of urban farmers who support the local agricultural movement and non-profit organisations supportive of our mission. With these new members, we hope to expand our role towards being a national-level association that represents the voices of Singapore’s farmers. We have also established a Transformation Advisory Committee of senior advisors from the private and public sectors.

The year 2017 flew by and our association enjoyed some of the fruits of our labour over the last few years. The 27th Commonwealth Agriculture Conference, which the KCA hosted in November 2016 and prepared for since 2012, won the Best Association Conference at the Singapore Tourism Awards. This was a big feather in our cap as it shows that Singapore can indeed become a centre for thought leadership, urban and peri-urban agricultural solutions and technological and business innovation. We are grateful and motivated by the recognition.

Our flagship event the Kranji Countryside Farmers’ Market has also gained even more foothold with the help of our generous sponsors and supporters.

As we prepare for the next phase of growth for our association, we will be focusing on building our industry from the ground up, building our community and building future leaders. To that end, we continue to engage the government on various issues facing the farmers, continue to hold meaningful activities and events that uplift our community and continue to invest in next-generation farmers. Our youth wing Singapore Young Farmers has tied up with the public universities to host symposiums to get young people interested in our industry.

I look forward to many more opportunities that will come out of greater public-private-people collaboration in the coming years.
